Simchat Haderech Constitution

 

First Drafted on the

First Day of August, Two Thousand and Sixteen

 

Brought Before the Chapter on the 

The Twentieth of October, Two Thousand and Sixteen

 

Preamble

 

The Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order has for its purpose:

 

  • The spiritual, mental, and physical development of Jewish Youth;

  • The inoculation of love and understanding of their Jewish cultural heritage;

  • The stimulation of responsibility as good citizens of the community in which they live, as well as the larger Jewish community;

  • The encouragement of good will among the youth of all peoples, and Interests in humanitarian, philanthropic, and educational endeavors.

 

Article I Name

 

This body shall be known as Simchat Haderech Chapter Number 5401 of Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

 

Article II BBYO Inc. Commission

 

Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order is under the sponsorship of BBYO Inc. If there is any conflict between this constitution and by-laws and those of the BBYO International Order as they now read, or may later be amended, those of the BBYO International Order shall be supreme in every case.

 

Article III Membership

 

Section 1. Eligibility

 

To be a member of Simchat Haderech of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls you must be the son/daughter of a Jew. You must live within the city of Plantation, Florida or in the surrounding communities of Plantation, Florida. Jewish teens may register for membership beginning on January 1st of their 8th grade year or may wait until their freshmen year of high school, and may remain a member until they graduate from high school.

 

Section 2. Life Membership

 

An Aleph or BBG shall be eligible for Regional Life Membership at the end of his or her Senior year of high school. To receive Life Membership, an Aleph or BBG must have served on the Gold Coast Region AZA or BBG Executive Board. The Gold Coast Regional Godol or N’siah may use his or her discretion to decide if any Alephs of BBGs who do not fill these requirements shall receive Life Membership. Life Membership is simply an honorary membership.

 

 

 

 

Article IV Dues

 

The dues for all members of Simchat Haderech of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls are $149. This includes BBYO International dues, Gold Coast Regional dues, and chapter dues. Dues must be paid before an Aleph or BBG is considered a member. After the time in which an Aleph or BBG has paid, the Aleph or BBG will become an official member of Simchat Haderech #5401 and therefore acquire all the benefits of BBYO membership.

 

Article V Meetings

 

Section 1. When

 

The business meetings of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order shall be held whenever the Chapter Godol or N’siah and the Chapter Executive Board deems it necessary.

 

Section 2. Delegation

 

Each member of the chapter receives one vote and each member of the chapter Executive Board receives one vote. ALEPHS AND BBGS THAT ARE NOT PAID MEMBERS DO NOT RECEIVE A VOTE UNTIL THEY ARE PAID AND CONSIDERED A MEMBER.

 

Section 3. Quorum

 

A quorum of the delegation of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order must be present to conduct business. If deemed necessary and does not change the overall structure of the chapter (ex. name) then the Godol or N’siah may overrule this.

 

Section 4. Decorum

 

The Chapter Godol or N’siah, with help of the Shotarim, shall maintain proper meeting decorum. The Chapter Godol or N’siah shall be empowered to expel, with fair reason and warning, any Aleph or BBG or guest from the meeting.

 

Article VI The Simchat Haderech Executive Board

 

Section 1. Names

 

Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order shall have the following elected officers: Aleph Godol or N’siah, Aleph S’gan or S’ganit, Aleph Moreh, Mit Mom, Aleph Mazkir or Mazkirah, Aleph Shaliach or Shlicha, Aleph Gizbor or Gizborit, Aleph Sopher or Orechet (*Note—The Kohane Godol is not elected. The Past Chapter Aleph Godol is automatically granted the position).

 

 

 

 

 

Section 2. Duties

 

A. Chapter Aleph Godol—President

  1. Preside over all business meetings of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

  2. Shall appoint all Extended Board positions on the chapter level if deemed necessary or allow other Executive Board Members to appoint them on behalf of the Godol or N’siah with their consent.

  3. Represent Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order at all Chapter, Gold Coast Region, and International events and conventions.

  4. Present a written State of the Order at the end of each term that concludes his term.

  5. Correspond with the Gold Coast Regional Aleph Godol or N’siah.

  6. See that communication is intact on the Chapter Executive Board level between the Chapter Executive Board Members.

  7. See that the Chapter Executive Board Members Communicate with their Regional Counterpart.

  8. Behave as a model Aleph or BBG of integrity, courtesy, and character so as to be a role model for all Alephs and BBGs of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

  9. Keep the Constitution of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order up to date following the passing of amendments.

 

B. Chapter Aleph S’gan—Vice President of Programming

  1. Preside in the absence of the Chapter Aleph Godol or N’siah.

  2. Promote the Five/Six Folds of Programming in all programs.

  3. Preside at all business meetings of the Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph of the BBYO International Order’s Executive Board.

  4. Oversee the planning of all Chapter programs.

  5. Fill out and turn in all Programming Forms for each Chapter program.

  6. Correspond with the Gold Coast Region Aleph S’gan or S’ganit.

  7. Show Perfect Attendance to all Chapter events and all regular Gold Coast Regional events.

  8. Attend the Leadership Training Institute of Gold Coast Region.

  9. Behaves as a model Aleph or BBG of integrity, courtesy, and character so as to be a role model for all Alephs and BBGs of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Board.

 

C. Chapter Aleph Moreh—Vice President of Membership

  1. Responsible for the recruitment and retention of all Alephs and BBGs who are in or wish to be in Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

  2. Performs the training of all of the Alephs in Training of the Chapter.

  3. Coordinate a Membership Drive for the perspective members of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

  4. Promote Fraternity and teach the traditions of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order and Gold Coast AZA to all Alephs in Training.

  5. Correspond with the Gold Coast Regional Aleph Moreh or Mit Mom.

  6. Show Perfect Attendance to all Chapter events and all regular Gold Coast Region events.

  7. Attend the Gold Coast Region Leadership Training Institute.

  8. Attend the Gold Coast Region New Member Convention and apply to steer for the  Gold Coast Region New Member Convention.

  9. Behave as a model Aleph of integrity, courtesy, and character so as to be a role model for all Alephs and BBGs of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

 

D. Chapter Aleph Mazkir—Vice President of Communications

  1. Record the Proceedings of all Chapter Business meetings and all Chapter Executive Board meetings of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

  2. Call role at all Chapter Business Meetings and all Chapter Executive Board Meetings of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

  3. Read the proceedings of the past meetings, Executive Board and Chapter Business respectively.

  4. Establish and maintain a working social media platform and maintain communication in the chapter.

  5. Maintain Chapter rosters and Chapter e-mail

  6. Appoint Chair of Simchat Haderech online presence (website).

  7. Produces and/or oversee all flyers and sends them to all Chapter Members or, in the event of a Chapter-planned Gold Coast Regional Event, sends the flyers to all of Gold Coast Region AZA or BBG or BBYO respectively.

  8. Attend the Gold Coast Region BBYO Leadership Training Institute.

  9. Corresponds with the Gold Coast Regional Aleph Mazkir or Mazkirah.

  10. Show Perfect Attendance to all Chapter events and all regular Gold Coast Regional events.

  11. Behaves as a model Aleph of integrity, courtesy, and character so as to be a role model for all Alephs and BBGs of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

E. Chapter Aleph Shaliach—Vice President of Judaism and Social Action

 

  1. Assist the Aleph S’gan or S’ganit in the planning of all events concerning community service, Judaism, and education.

  2. Promote Jewish Heritage throughout the Chapter.

  3. Correspond with the Gold Coast Regional Aleph Shaliach or Shlicha.

  4. Attend the Gold Coast Region BBYO Leadership Training Institute.

  5. Show Perfect Attendance to all Chapter events and all regular Gold Coast Region events.

  6. Behaves as a model Aleph of integrity, courtesy, and character so as to be a role model for all Alephs and BBGs of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

F. Chapter Aleph Gizbor—Vice President of the Treasury

 

  1. Collect Money at all Chapter events.

  2. Attend the Gold Coast Region BBYO Leadership Training Institute.

  3. Correspond with the Gold Coast Regional Aleph Gizbor or Gizborit.

  4. Show Perfect Attendance to all Chapter events and all regular Gold Coast Regional events.

  5. Assist the Chapter Aleph S’gan or S’ganit in planning fundraisers.

  6. Educate Chapter members of the purpose of the International Service Fund and promote that fund.

  7. Behaves as a model Aleph of integrity, courtesy, and character so as to be a role model for all Alephs and BBGs of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

G. Chapter Aleph Sopher—Vice President of Publications

 

  1. Make a newspaper for the chapter and send it out to the chapter members and the Gold Coast Regional Aleph Godol and N’siah, the Gold Coast Regional BBYO Staff, and the Gold Coast Aleph Mazkir and Mazkirah.

  2. Correspond with the Gold Coast Regional Aleph Mazkir or Mazkirah.

  3. Attend the Gold Coast Region BBYO Leadership Training Institute.

  4. Show Perfect Attendance to all Chapter events and all regular Atlanta Council events.

  5. Behaves as a model Aleph of integrity, courtesy, and character so as to be a role model for all Alephs and BBGs of Simchat Haderech Number 5401 of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order.

 Section 3 Terms of Officers

 

The terms of all officers of Simchat Haderech Chapter Number Five Thousand Four Hundred And One of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order shall last one-half of a year. Elections will be held in accordance to when advised by the Gold Coast Regional Board.

 

Article VII Rules For Amending This Constitution

 

 

 

 

Section 1 Where and When

 

The Official Constitution of Simchat Haderech Chapter Number Five Thousand Four Hundred And One of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls of the BBYO International Order can be amended at a regular chapter business meeting.

 

Section 2 Regulations

 

All amendments to the constitution must be submitted no less than 24 hours prior to the meeting where the amendment will be voted on to the Aleph Godol or N’siah of the Chapter. All amendments are subject to the veto of the Chapter Aleph Godol or N’siah, Chapter Advisor, BBYO Regional Aleph Godol or N’siah, BBYO Regional Staff, the BBYO International Board, the BBYO International Staff, the Advisory Board for any reason.

 

Section 3 Delegation

 

Amendments to this constitution must be passed by a two-thirds vote by a quorum of the delegation.

 

Article VIII Amendments

 

Amendment I Removal of Officers

 

In the event of a bad attendance record on the part of any Chapter Executive Board member, a two-thirds vote of the Chapter Executive Board can remove the member from office. 

 

Amendment II Removal of Advisors

 

In the event of inadequacy of the advisor, the Chapter Executive Board may remove him/her with a unanimous vote.

 

Amendment III AIT/MIT Privileges

 

Section 1. Alephs in Training and Members in Training shall be granted the right to vote once they have paid their dues.

 

Section 2. Alephs in Training and Members in Training shall, on the night of the mid-year election, be initiated in the fashion described in the AZA/BBG Ceremony Book. From then on, they are considered full Alephs and BBGs. The traditional ceremonies may be replaced with the official BBYO International co-ed induction ceremonies if needed.

 

Section 3. Alephs in Training and Members in Training may run for any board position at the elections with the exception of the offices of Chapter Aleph Godol or N’siah, Chapter Aleph S’gan or N’siah, and Chapter Aleph Moreh or N’siah.

 

Amendment IV Contracts

 

To assure that the members of the Chapter Executive Board are informed of their ex-officio duties, a contract shall be signed by each. The contract shall be written by the Chapter Aleph Mazkir or Mazkirah and approved by the Chapter Aleph Godol or N’siah. Each contract shall have the list of ex-officio duties as written in the constitution for each Chapter Executive Board position. All other information contained therein shall be subject to the editing of the Chapter Aleph Godol. The contract shall be kept in the Godol or N’siah Box of the Chapter Aleph Godol or N’siah and shall be returned to each Aleph or BBG at the expiration of his term.

 

Amendment V Use/Possession/Distribution of Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drugs  

 

Per the BBYO Member Code of Conduct Policy:

“BBYO is a completely alcohol and drug free organization. No alcohol or drug use by members will be tolerated, and the following disciplinary action will take place:

  • Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) shall be immediately informed and all parties must be notified in writing.

  • Immediate removal from program.

  • Immediate suspension of no less than 30 days.

  • Immediate removal from all privileged duty, including elected office, at all levels of the organization.

  • Second violation will result in immediate expulsion from the organization.

Some regions may have a stronger policy that supersedes this policy; however, no region may have less that what is stated here. Any penalty instituted at an International program will be required to be followed at the local level. In addition, the professional staff shall have the discretion to use his or her judgement in taking other appropriate steps to address issues raised by violators of this policy and to avoid future violations. The violator may also be also required to plan a program for the BBYO community as part of the penalty.” 

 

Amendment VI Chapter Life Membership

 

Any member of Simchat Haderech shall be eligible for Simchat Haderech Life Membership at the end of his or her senior year of high school.  Life Membership shall be given at the final Chapter Meeting of the year.  If a member who is moving to another city wishes to give life, he or she may at the discretion of the Godol or N’siah.  Life Membership is simply an honorary membership.

 

In witness hereof, we, the authors of this constitution of Simchat Haderech, Chapter Number Five Thousand Four Hundred And One of the Gold Coast Region of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls, hereby do agree to all terms which are contained herein, swear to uphold these terms, and pledge our Jewish Youth to the Aleph Zadik Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girls.
